Cox, LDR Partner on Apps

Rollout of iPhone, iPad and Android App underway for 33 music stations

Cox Media Group and LDR Interactive are introducing an interactive mobile app on more than 30 Cox Radio stations.

LDR Interactive created the iPhone, iPad and Android apps which the companies say give listeners a real-time interactive experience featuring live station streams. They can vote for the songs they want to hear next and use an “open mic” feature to create a dedication using their own voice. The app also features Facebook and Twitter integration

Cox began introducing the app to certain markets in June: Athens and Atlanta, Ga.; Dayton, Ohio; Houston; Jacksonville, Fla.; Long Island, N.Y.; Miami; Orlando, Fla.; San Antonio; Tampa, Fla.; and Tulsa, Okla. All 33 music stations will have the app by the middle of this month.

Cox EVP Radio Kim Guthrie says in addition to having “cool features,” the apps extend the brand beyond what Cox can accomplish on-air.

The broadcaster previously adopted the LDR Interactive “Takeover” platform technology at most of its stations, according to LDR President and Chief Executive Officer Daniel Anstandig. The companies worked on developing the app, which is exclusive to Cox Radio, for a year. The app will be available to other radio station group operators outside of CMG markets under the Gruvr brand name.
