More than three-quarters of the population of the United Kingdom (77%) tune to radio via digitally enabled platforms.
That’s a finding from the latest quarterly data about U.K. radio listening as reported by RAJAR and research firms Ipsos and RSMB.
“In terms of reach, 45 million adults aged 15+ are now tuning in to radio via a digitally enabled platform each week.” Digital platforms include DAB, DTV, websites, apps and smart speakers.
As the chart below shows, only 24% of weekly listening hours now are consumed on actual AM/FM broadcast radio.

Overall, 87% of the population tune in to radio in some form every week. On average a listener tunes into 19.9 hours of live radio weekly compared to 20.5 hours a year earlier.
In an average week, digital listening accounts for 765 million hours. Of those hours DAB has a 57% share, smart speaker 25%, websites/apps 15% and DTV 3%.
RAJAR stands for Radio Joint Audience Research. It is the official body in charge of measuring radio audiences in the country. It is owned jointly by the BBC and the commercial industry body Radiocentre.
