Broadcast engineer John “Jack” Quinn passed away last week, on Jan. 25.
There will be a memorial service for him, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Menlo Presbyterian Church, 950 Santa Cruz Ave., Menlo Park, Calif.
Quinn was a CBS Radio engineer. He is featured in “Last of VOA’s Wartime Transmitting Stations Goes Dark.” He had been posted at the VOA Delano station and was a source for some of the historical photos in the article.
He also worked for General Electric’s KGEI shortwave station and was technical operations manager at Radio Free Europe’s Munich facility. Other radio stops include KJBS in San Francisco and KPHO in Phoenix. In addition he worked for tube maker EIMAC and was an announcer/engineer at the RCA Hollywood Recording Studios.
Quinn would later be a Northern California-based independent engineer and technical consultant. Here Quinn contributes to a Radio World Workbench on the topic of tubes and their construction, along with inconsistencies in them.
His U.S. radio ID was W6MZ and EI2MC for Ireland.
