The FCC has sent a Letter of Inquiry to Antonio Cesar Guel, asking several questions about his applications for 14 low-power FM stations. The questions concern four LPFM applications in Houston, plus others in Memphis, Tenn. Fort Worth, Texas, Greensboro, N.C. and additional locations.
The Media Bureau has accepted the applications for filing, however the agency says it awaits responses from Guel before proceeding with processing them further.
The bureau is investigating potential violations including possible “misrepresentation and or lack of candor.”
Guel has 30 days to respond. Not doing so could result in the applications being dismissed, notes the commission.
We reported recently that REC Networks, on behalf of itself and other LPFM advocacy groups, had protested to the FCC about 245 applications filed by Guel and the Hispanic Christian Community Network, saying the large number of applications, and their similarities, raised red flags. Guel’s attorney disputed the objections.
