In advance of the hurricane season, the Federal Communications Commission will host an event to promote collaboration between communications, power and public safety workers.
On July 7, its Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau will be leading the free Hurricane Season Resiliency Roundtable.
The three panel sessions that will make up the roundtable aim to provide a venue to promote resiliency and recovery efforts.
Panel sessions
- The first, “Challenges to Response and Recovery of Power and Communications Outages in the Aftermath of a Hurricane,” will discuss common and pressing challenges for providers and utilities in restoring service after a storm.
- The second, “Current Government, Intra-Industry and Cross-Industry Partnerships,” will discuss existing collaboration between power and communications stakeholders to respond to power and and communications outages caused by hurricanes. The panel will also explore further opportunities for collaboration.
- The third, “The Advance Preparation Frameworks for Power and Communications,” examines best practices and established frameworks that have been effective in speeding up recovery efforts or minimizing damage after a hurricane.
In a release, Chairman Brendan Carr said that promoting collaboration between officials is one of the best ways the commission can help ensure networks keep running following a tropical system.

The event is free and open to the public. It takes place Mon., July 7, at 9:30 a.m. at the FCC’s Washington, D.C., headquarters, and it will also be streamed online.
