FCC's Copps Challenges Broadcasters to Clean Up Airwaves

FCC Commissioner Michael Copps says broadcasters are responsible for what programming goes on their stations and he’s challenged station executives to eliminate indecent programming from the airwaves and “put the FCC on the enforcement sidelines.”
Speaking at NAB’s meeting to figure out broadcasters’ response to indecency, Copps said, “Anyone in industry or at the commission who thinks they can ‘politick’ this problem for a few months and it will magically disappear needs to crawl out of his or her cocoon.”
Asked by Radio World what he thinks about zero tolerance policies begun by major radio groups, Copp said they’re a “good start” to eliminating the problem.
