Gold-Plated ‘Model 43’ Will Benefit Charity

Bird Electronic Corp. will auction a gold-plated Model 43 Thruline Wattmeter this summer to mark the production of 300,000 units.
The auction runs Aug. 1 to Aug. 30 and will be hosted online by www.auctionfire.com. Proceeds will be donated to a charity chosen by the winner.
The company said it began production of the general-purpose measuring device in 1952.
“It was the first device manufactured on a production scale for the radio industry that allowed RF energy to flow through the device, and this unique function is the basis for the Thruline name,” it stated.
