Tom Jones, a longtime radio broadcast engineer, has died at age 78.

His passing last week was noted by the Alabama Broadcasters Association weekly engineering newsletter edited by Larry Wilkins.
“Tom was chief engineer for over 40 years for WBAM(AM/FM) in Montgomery, Ala.,” Wilkins wrote.
“WBAM(AM) was part of Deep South Broadcasting, which had four 50,000-watt AM stations in the South. He also served as a contract engineer for numerous stations in central and south Alabama.”
Jones received the Broadcast Engineer of the Year award in 2014 from SBE Chapter 118 in Montgomery. He was a founding member of the chapter.
“He will be remembered for his dedication to radio broadcast engineering and was always willing to help other engineers with technical issues,” Wilkins recalled.
“He often said, ‘If it worked once, it could be made to work again.’”
Wilkins said Jones was one of his closest friends and that Jones’ wife Marsha had passed away in February of this year. “Tom had suffered from several strokes over the past years. … He had moved to Huntsville after several weeks in the hospital to be close to his son Benjamin.”
