Horse Racing Spot Wins Big-Money Prize

DeVito/Verdi knows what it’s like to be so rewarded. The ad agency won the grand prize the Radio-Mercury Award with “Sushi,” a radio spot for the National Thoroughbred Racing Association.
The creators of the best radio commercials were honored at the annual Radio-Mercury Awards ceremony and luncheon in New York this week. The Awards are presented by the Radio Creative Fund.
Fourteen other winners took away a total of another $65,000 in cash prizes. Among the winners: Copacino + Fujikado for client HomeStreet Bank, Leopold Ketel & Partners for Oregon Coast Aquarium and TBWA\Chiat\Day NY for Starburst.
Also Arnold Worldwide / Crispin Porter + Bogusky for the American Legacy Foundation; Crispin Porter + Bogusky for Burger King; DDB Chicago for Anheuser-Busch; Fitzgerald + CO for Piedmont Hospital; Texas agency GSD&M for Southwest Airlines; and Y&R Chicago for the Travel Channel.
The 30-Second category was won by Foote Cone & Belding NY for Beiersdorf/Nivea for Men. The Spanish-Language Category winner was Miami agency la comunidad for a Virgin Mobile commercial. Salem Radio from Los Angeles won the Station-Produced Prize with a spot for The Trans Shop.
The PSA Award and accompanying donation went to the Richards Group for a spot for Mothers Against Drunk Driving. The Portfolio Center from Atlanta took the Student Award.
