Clear Channel has presented its first Lifetime Achievement Award to countdown pioneer Casey Kasem, the man it recently replaced as host of “American Top 40.”
Kasem went on the air with his first countdown on Independence Day 1970, and is the youngest person to be inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame.
He was the first recipient of Billboard’s Lifetime Achievement Award and has been honored by the NAACP for facilitating dialogue between Jews and Arab-Americans.
Premiere Radio Networks, part of Clear Channel, recently replaced Kasem with Ryan Seacrest as the host of AT40. Kasem, 71, continued under a new contract with Premiere.
