Indonesian news station Kantor Berita Radio 68H (KBR68H) has won the 2008–2009 King Baudouin International Development Prize.
The Jakarta-based station was singled out, according to the board of governors of the King Baudouin Foundation, “for its contribution to a sustainable development based on the strengthening of democracy, tolerance and citizen participation, by producing and disseminating qualitative information through a network of local radio stations and by promoting professional ethics in the media world.”
The prize, which is presented biannually and includes an award of €150,000, honors development work in the southern hemisphere or to work that builds solidarity between industrialized and developing nations.
The award will be presented in Belgium on 19 May.
