KTRH Listening ‘Skyrocketed,’ PPM Shows

Arbitron says its PPM demonstrates “the power of news and special events,” and it has put out statistics from Houston to prove it.
The company says radio listening to KTRH(AM) “skyrocketed” last Thursday morning, May 25, after news was reported that the jury in the trial of two former Enron chief executives had reached a verdict.
“The 12-member panel returned to the courtroom at 11:00 a.m. Houston time to read the verdict,” Arbitron said in its summary. “The Arbitron Portable People Meter was able to track the huge increase in listeners to Houston News/Talk radio station KTRH(AM) as Houston residents tuned in to hear the outcome of the 56-day trial.”
The research firm said the audience nearly tripled in the 11 to 11:15 a.m. quarter hour during which the verdict was read, reaching 40,500 listeners, “up from a typical Thursday 11 a.m. audience of 14,170 listeners age 12 and older.”
