Larry Wilkins Retires

Larry Wilkins has retired from his full-time engineering gig at Cumulus.

Larry Wilkins has retired from his full-time engineering gig at Cumulus.

“I will still be involved in engineering, handling the Alternative Broadcast Inspections in Alabama and South Carolina,” he said. He remains active in the national SBE board and certification committee.

Wilkins was assistant DOE and market chief for the seven-station Montgomery group, where he has worked for 30 years. The company purchased the cluster in 1998.

He had a mild stroke a year ago and began to slow down. He told RW he “figured that after 47 years of 24/7 on call it was time to step down a gear.” Wilkins has been in the broadcast industry his entire career; he started at a small 1 kW daytimer while in high school in Enterprise, Ala.

He also does on-site engineering work with International Sports Properties for Auburn football games. Wilkins now lives in Prattville.
