Late Renewal Costs KLYX $7,000

Penalty is also for station operation without authorization

The FCC proposed a $7,000 fine against the Lincoln County School District in Nevada for filing a late renewal application and operating a station without authorization.

The school district is the licensee for KLYX(FM), Pioche, Nev.

An application to renew the KLYX license should have been filed by June 1, 2013, four months before Oct. 1 expiration date; however the school district didn’t file until for renewal until Oct. 18, nearly three weeks after the license expired, according to the Media Bureau. On Oct. 31, the bureau granted the station an STA to remain on the air pending renewal authorization.

The base fines are $3,000 for failing to file a required form and $10,000 for station operation without authorization.

The bureau kept the $3,000 paperwork penalty but reduced the fine for station operation without authorization to $4,000 because it covered a three-week period.

The agency plans to grant the license renewal once the fine is paid.

The Lincoln County School District has 30 days to appeal or pay the penalty.
