The Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio Group says Mercedes Martinez is the 2018 recipient of the MIW Airblazer Award.
Martinez is host of “Mercedes in the Morning” on Entercom Las Vegas station KMXB(FM), where she has worked since 1997.
She received the award recently during the Talentmasters Morning Show Bootcamp in Chicago. Last year’s MIW Airblazer Roula Christie and Radio Advertising Bureau President/CEO and MIW Group Executive Committee member Erica Farber presented the award.
“It is the MIW Group’s privilege to acknowledge an industry veteran like Mercedes. She has an exceptional ability to engage listeners, and generously uses her influence to make the community in which she lives a better place,” said MIW Group Spokeswoman Denyse Mesnik. “Mercedes represents the very heart of what radio does best.”
In addition to this award, Martinez has been recognized as Billboard Magazine’s “Air Personality of the Year;” “Best Local Radio Personality” by both the Las Vegas Review-Journal and Las Vegas Week; and “Best Radio On-Air Talent” at the Nevada “Silver State Awards/Women Awards.” She also was honored for her charity work at “Vegas Gives.”
In the MIW Group announcement, Martinez said, “I’ve watched and idolized all the women [Ellen K, Angie Martinez and Roula Christie] that have won this award in the past and to be included in this group is an honor I never could have imagined. As the mother of two daughters, being a role model to girls and women is something that I take very seriously, so the MIW Group Airblazer Award is especially meaningful.”
