Traffic info provider Navteq said its contract to provide content for Microsoft’s MSN Direct product has been extended.
Navteq Traffic will continue to be offered on Microsoft’s Live Search Maps web-based service, and as part of the MSN Direct connected services bundle offered on portable navigation devices. With the contract, Microsoft expands the traffic coverage in its MSN Direct Traffic product.
Navteq now provides the traffic data for 106 North American markets for Microsoft. MSN Direct wirelessly delivers Navteq Traffic data to customer’s GPS navigation devices. Navteq Traffic’s data is derived from sources including sensors, probe data, combined traffic flow and incident coverage for accidents, road construction and closures, and knowledge of local traffic patterns.
Navteq also is a customer of the Broadcast Traffic Consortium; its member stations use their analog and digital spectrum to deliver traffic data via RDS and HD Radio.
