Javad Mottaghi has been named secretary-general of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union. The announcement was made by the ABU Administrative Council after a meeting in Kuala Lumpur.
Mottaghi is currently director of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), which he has headed since 1998.
Mottaghi worked at Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) from 1978 to 1996, notably in the fields of sports, production and news, including 18 years as director of the IRIB Radio and TV Sports Department.
Mottaghi has long been active in ABU activities. He was IRIB’s Liaison Officer for both the ABU and the European Broadcasting Union until 1996.
In February 2009, the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association (CBA) presented Mottaghi with the Elizabeth R Award for Exceptional Contribution to Public Service Broadcasting.
