The National Federation of Community Broadcasters announced winners of its Community Radio Program Awards, or Golden Reels, at a ceremony as part of the Annual Community Radio Conference last month in Baltimore.
The awards honor noncommercial community public radio programs and the reporters and producers who create them.
From the finalists, nine were selected for Golden Reels, 18 for Silver Reels and 30 for Special Merits.
Among others, Golden Reels went to Ben Manilla Productions Inc./Experience Music Project for “The Blues: Mystery Train”; Jad Abumrad, Aaron Cohen and Elen Park for “The Ring and I: The Passion, the Myth, the Mania”; Paul Ingles, “The Beatles on American Radio”; Anne Heppermann and Kara Oehler for “And I Walked: Stories From the Border”; Dmae Roberts and MediaRites for “The Breast Cancer Monologues”; and Scott Carrier, Julian Cardonna and HearingVoices.com for “Juarez: City on the Edge.”
