On Monday, FCC Commissioner Nathan Simington announced a series of staff appointments, including the selection of Gavin Wax as his chief of staff and senior advisor.

Per a FCC press release, in his new role, Wax will serve as the commissioner’s principal advisor. “He brings a proven track record in media, communications and policy strategy, with a career distinguished by leadership in advocacy, political strategy and organizational management.”
Following his appointment to Simington’s personal staff, Wax said: “The FCC plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of American communications and innovation. I look forward to advancing an agenda that supports free expression, dynamic markets and national security in our increasingly digital world.”
Additional FCC appointments include Thomas Struble as senior legal advisor and Anne Urban as confidential assistant. “These appointments reflect Commissioner Simington’s commitment to advancing policy rooted in constitutional governance, technological progress and free-market innovation,” read the release.
Simington was confirmed to the FCC by the Senate in December 2020. More recently, he has expressed concern over FCC forfeitures and pirate radio fines. Simington is also an AM radio advocate, having emphasized the senior band’s continued importance for public safety
