NPR News will offer both live on-air and online coverage of the presidential debates on Oct. 3, Oct.16 and Oct. 22, as well as the vice presidential debate, Oct.11.
The four broadcast specials will coincide with each debate (9 p.m. EST) and be followed by roundup and analysis from 10:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. NPR.org will offer fact checks, chats and blogging to accompany the live stream of the debate.
The debate specials will air on member stations nationwide; for local stations and broadcast times, visit www.NPR.org/stations. The debates will also be available on NPR’s mobile apps and Web for mobile devices.
NPR News programs will also focus on the debates. Oct 1., NPR News began “Solve This,” a multiweek series focusing on the solutions offered by President Obama and former Mitt Romney to issues facing the country.
“All Things Considered” hosts Guy Raz and Audie Cornish will participate in the broadcast specials, with post-debate reporting and analysis from NPR’s political reporters. During each debate, Senior Washington Editor Ron Elving and contributors E.J. Dionne and Matt Continetti will also provide analysis.
Reporting on candidates’ performances will come from White House correspondents Ari Shapiro and Scott Horsley, live from the presidential debates in Denver, Hempstead, N.Y. and Boca Raton, Fla. National Desk correspondent Debbie Elliott and Washington Desk correspondent Brian Naylor will report from the vice presidential debate in Danville, Ky.
National Political correspondents Don Gonyea and Mara Liasson will attend the debates, reporting on candidates’ performances and audience reception. Correspondents will offer analysis and fact-checking.
