NTL to build digital radio network for Yorkshire

NTL to build digital radio network for Yorkshire

NTL Broadcast has secured a 12-year end-to-end regional digital radio contract with XR Ltd for the Yorkshire region of Britain worth roughly $12.5 million (U.S. dollars). According to NTL, the deal means that the company will construct the UK’s largest digital radio network after the national multiplexes of Digital One and the BBC. As part of the contract, NTL will build ten transmitters in Yorkshire by summer 2003.
NTL Broadcast already provides contribution, distribution, multiplexing and transmission services in four regions: North East England, South Wales/Severn Estuary, West Midlands and North West England. According to the company, this work represents a second-generation multiplex platform coupled with an IP network for program feeds – allowing the insertion of local news content.
