Outlook Poor for Oldies, AC Formats

Between now and 2012, today’s oldies format will lose a lot of ground, as will AC, rock and classical; while country, news/talk and Spanish will pick up.

That’s the word from Bridge Ratings after a study of radio listening habits. It looked at current listening by radio format as well as the growth potential of formats and the impact of demographic shifts and new media on AQH listening by 2012.

“Some format concepts that hold promise for the future were youth formats labeled ‘Youth Inclusive’ and ‘Youth Lifestyle,’” the company stated.
