The Ohio Association of Broadcasters has named its new president. Chad Budreau will start in the role in early December.

He succeeds Christine Merritt, who announced earlier this year that she’d be stepping down after 22 years as president.

The organization said Budreau has a unique combination of association management experience plus a background in broadcasting and government relations.

He was executive director for six years of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, which he joined in 2010. “During his tenure at AMA, he successfully navigated an 88-year-old organization through the challenges presented by emerging industries like artificial intelligence and drone technology,” the OAB said in its announcement.

It cited his leadership of legislative efforts at the state, local and federal levels and his work with agencies including the FAA, FCC and DHS.

“In addition to his advocacy work, Mr. Budreau has overseen a broad array of initiatives at AMA, including outreach, credentialing and training programs, and event management. He was also instrumental in establishing key partnerships with organizations such as Google Wing, the Air Force JROTC and the Civil Air Patrol, reflecting his commitment to innovation and collaboration.”

He began his career in broadcasting, working in television and radio, including for Whitewater Broadcasting in Richmond, Ind., in roles including assistant station manager, account executive and news producer.

The announcement was made by Brian Lorenzen, chair of the OAB board. The association has about 400 radio and TV member stations.
