The Tennessee Association of Broadcasters (TAB) honored longtime engineer Tim Berry with its Lifetime Achievement Award last month. Berry was recognized alongside veteran broadcaster David Widener at TAB’s annual Excellence in Broadcasting Awards banquet on Aug. 18, at the Country Music Hall of Fame in downtown Nashville.

According to TAB, the Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have spent their careers demonstrating a longstanding commitment to the broadcasting industry in Tennessee, as well as the local communities they serve.
Berry has been a broadcast engineer for more than 30 years, serving commercial radio stations in Greensboro, N.C., and Knoxville, Tenn. He currently serves Knoxville’s WUOT(FM) as its chief engineer, a role he previously held from 1990 to 1998. Berry has also served as the longtime chief engineer and technical director for the Vol Radio Network.
Joining the Vol Network in 1991, Berry has overseen and directed the engineering operations for University of Tennessee football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and softball games, along with statewide weekly shows on one of the largest college sports radio networks in the country, according to TAB.
Prior to rejoining WUOT, Berry spent many years as the chief engineer of country station WIVK, in addition to the group of stations under the Cumulus Media group in Knoxville.
“Tim has been a tireless servant and leader within the Southeastern Conference Association of Broadcasts for more than three decades,” said TAB in a press release. “Earlier this spring, he was presented with an award from the Southeastern Conference for his service to the University of Tennessee and the SEC. He’s also been an integral part of TAB’s Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program, providing stations with self-inspections and engineering advice to members for over two decades.”
Co-recipient of the TAB Lifetime Achievement Award is David Widener, president and general manager of Holston Valley Broadcasting Corporation. With five decades in the broadcast industry, Widener has overseen six radio stations and two television stations serving the Johnson City–Kingsport–Bristol Tenn./Va. market.
