Rather to Step Down at CBS

Rather to Step Down at CBS

Dan Rather is leaving his anchor chair at CBS in March to go back to daily reporting, the network reported. He does daily radio commentary and the network expects that to continue.
Rather has been with the network 40 years. He inherited the anchor position from Walter Cronkite 24 years ago.
CNN reports CBS as saying Rather’s decision was not related to the findings of a panel investigating a “60 Minutes” report that was critical of the National Guard Service of President George W. Bush. Critics of the story said it was based on false documents. Rather at first defended the story; later CBS said the documents were shaky and it regretted using them.
The panel’s findings are expected shortly, CNN reported.
