Ray’s Duties Increase at Buckley

A management shuffle at Buckley Radio means company VP/Corporate Director of Engineering Tom Ray has more technical oversight responsibilities come January.

A management shuffle at Buckley Radio means company VP/Corporate Director of Engineering Tom Ray has more technical oversight responsibilities come January.

Wayne Mulligan, vice president and general manager of WDRC(AM), Hartford, Conn., is retiring at the end of the year. He started at the station in 1964 as chief engineer. In 1966 he moved to WTIC as studio engineer and in 1972 was appointed CE at WDRC. He was promoted to station manager in 1989 and has been GM since 1991.

Ray tells me Mulligan was also overseeing the technical operation in Hartford and Syracuse for many years.

Starting Jan 1, Ray will be responsible for not only the technical operation of WOR and The WOR Radio Networks in NYC, but also WDRC, WDRC(FM), WMMW, WWCO and WSNG in Hartford, Meriden, Waterbury and Torrington, respectively; and WSEN, WSEN(FM) and WFBL in Baldwinsville/Syracuse.

“For me to be handed the responsibility of the Hartford stations is extremely flattering and humbling, as I started there as a production assistant and all around odd jobs kid in high school in 1977,” he said. Mulligan was his boss.

Frank Bolognino, formerly of WBBR(AM) in NYC, will start as chief engineer of WOR on Jan. 2.

I asked Ray how many engineers he now oversees; he said three in NYC and 15 operators, plus an engineer in Syracuse and two in Hartford.
