Restraining Order Lifted From “Big Boy”

Court action means “Big Boy” can work at iHeartMedia during possible trial

A Los Angeles County Superior Court has lifted a temporary restraining order against Emmis Top 40/rhythmic KPWR(FM), Los Angeles, morning DJ Kurt Alexander, whose on-air name is “Big Boy.”

The action clears the way for Alexander to go to Emmis rival iHeartMedia’s urban KRRL(FM) in the same market even if a trial gets underway.

The court also denied Emmis a preliminary injunction. Emmis sued Alexander last month alleging breach of contract.

Emmis said in a statement it is “disappointed” with the ruling and will evaluate its legal options. The broadcaster added: “[W]e are pleased with the court’s indication that damages are an available remedy at trial. Emmis remains resolute in continuing to protect our legal rights and committed to the continued success of Power 106.”
