Three broadcast equipment manufacturers have received an award from Radio World newspaper recognizing technical advancement of IBOC digital radio.
Broadcast Electronics Inc., Harris Corp. and Nautel Ltd. manufacture transmission equipment and are licensees of Ibiquity Digital Corp. technology that would allow in-band, on-channel digital audio broadcasting in the United States.
The three companies were among the recipients of Radio World’s “Cool Stuff” Award during the NAB2002 convention in Las Vegas.
“Among the many new products on the convention floor this year, these three manufacturers invested significant space and time to IBOC equipment. Clearly they have committed important resources to exploring digital radio,” said Radio World Editor Paul McLane.
“IBOC earned a tremendous amount of attention at the show,” McLane said. “It is one of the most important technical decisions our industry will ever make, and many questions about its implementation will be answered in coming months. Regardless of how the rollout proceeds, our judges felt that the companies taking the lead in bringing IBOC to market deserved their recognition.”
Radio World is the newspaper for radio station managers and engineers. Published in Falls Church, Va., it is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
