San Francisco’s KNBR, KTCT Unionize

SAG-AFTRA will create a bargaining unit that will cover some 35 employees

Employees at Cumulus Media-owned KNBR(AM) and KTCT(AM) in San Francisco recently voted to join the SAG-AFTRA union.

SAG-AFTRA will create a bargaining unit that will cover some 35 employees who host, report, edit, produce and coordinate content for the sports stations. The unit will negotiate its first contract with Cumulus Media in the coming months.

“We aim to reach a deal that will ensure that all of us dedicated to KNBR have a share of our successes,” stated producer Brian Smith.

Reporters, anchors and hosts of Cumulus-owned sister stations in the market, AMs KGO and KFSO are already unionized and supported the KNBR and KTCT effort.

They follow sports producers at CBS Radio-owned WIP(FM), Philadelphia, who recently voted to join on-air staff who were already represented by SAG-AFTRA.
