
Registration is open for the annual convention of the Nebraska Broadcasters Association.
The show will take place at a hotel venue in Lincoln, Neb., on Aug. 11–12.
For engineers, SBE Chapter 74 is partnering with the NBA. Those sessions take place on Wednesday Aug. 12 and will include an FCC and regulatory update from Davina Sashkin of Wilkinson Barker Knauer; a talk on RF basics from Jeff Welton of Nautel; a discussion of liquid-cooled FM and TV transmitter technology from Ben Marth of GatesAir; a talk on “Designing for Uncertainty” by Jered Hofker of Nebraska Public Media; and a presentation about an AM triplexing project in Omaha from a representative of Kintronic Labs.
The conference also includes sessions on management, sales, programming and news themes.
Tuesday sessions focus on management. These include a legal and policy update with Nicole Gustafson of the National Association of Broadcasters and Davina Sashkin of Wilkinson Barker Knauer, plus sessions on employment law, leading people through rapid change, and a broadcasters’ round table with U.S. Rep. Mike Flood, founder of Flood Communications and News Channel Nebraska.
On Wednesday, sales topics include selling digital, the growing interest in video, and how to overcome common challenges for local selling.
For newspeople, a special session will explore the relationship between news departments and local law enforcement; there’s also a talk on the use of AI as a newsroom assistant.
Radio programmers will hear talks from Mike McVay and Steve Reynolds. And the Wednesday keynote is by motivational speaker and broadcast veteran Derron Steenbergen.
