It is based on MPEG-4 ISO 14496-2/-3/-10 standards, which it says allows the flexibility to play other popular MPEG-4 content but with added features and improved technology. Nero says the MPEG-4 format has established itself as the codec of choice for consumer electronic devices such as cameras and mobile phones.
Applications for Nero Digital include audio delivery for Internet, mobile and radio/TV streaming, requiring low bit rates at higher bandwidth.
At the recent CES convention, the company said, Nero Digital with HE-AAC won a blind listening test at 48 kbps, beating Windows Media Audio Pro 10, which is shipped with the Windows Vista operating system.
The company said this test, coordinated by Sebastian Mares and presented on a Hydrogenaudio online forum, consisted of 20 audio samples featuring a variety of voice types, tempos, instruments and music genres.
The company also is touting Nero 7 Ultra Edition Enhanced. It provides more than 20 applications in one package to perform digital media tasks on a PC or TV.
