Sirius is moving ahead with backseat video.
We’ve reported that Sirius Satellite Radio planned to launch its Backseat TV product later this year, and now the satcaster has unveiled this and other additions to its product line.
The company announced this week that for Sirius Backseat TV, the SCV1 satellite radio tuner delivers three video channels — Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network — plus 130 audio channels of Sirius programming. Sirius said the unit allows users to listen to radio content throughout the vehicle’s main audio system while rear passengers watch the video feed.
Designed to work in any car with an FM radio and a rear-seat video monitor, the SCV1 includes a wired controller to operate the audio and video functions.
The SCV1 will be available this year and will list for around $300. The video service will cost $6.99 a month and users must also subscribe to Sirius for $12.95 per month.
The SCV1 comes with the main audio/video tuner, wired display controller, audio and video remote controls, dual magnetic vehicle antennas, remote control eye, audio and audio video cables, FM antenna interface and miscellaneous installation hardware.
Sirius also introduced Stiletto 2, a portable featuring enhanced WiFi capability, a removable microSD media slot for expanded storage of MP3/WMA files. Stiletto 2 will list for just under $350.
The latest Sirius dock-and-play radio, Sportster 5, features a six-line display. The unit, slated for fall availability, will list for just under $170.
