Sirius Satellite Radio says it has surpassed 500,000 subscribers and expects to reach 1 million by the end of the year. As of July 13, Sirius had 500,749 subscribers.
By comparison, its competitor, XM Satellite Radio, recently said it added 418,000 net new subscribers in the second quarter alone, and has 2.1 million total.
Sirius is also adding to its receiver lineup. Beginning this month, RadioShack will carry the Orbiter Model SR4000 “Plug & Play” Sirius receiver for $99.95 list. The Orbiter also has a mobile docking station and home docking station that list for about $50 each. The boombox attachment lists for $99.95.
