Thompson Joins Westwood One Lineup

Company hopes for 'biggest talk radio launch since O'Reilly'

Lawyer, film/TV actor, senator, presidential candidate Fred Thompson has led a multifaceted life; now he’s moving into another role, that of talk radio show host.

“The Fred Thompson Show” will be produced and distributed by Westwood One starting March 2. Some 125 stations have signed on, in markets including Washington, Houston, Dallas and Minneapolis.

The shows air noon–2 p.m., Monday through Friday. It will be produced in Washington.

Thompson is not unfamiliar with radio, having substituted for Paul Harvey on many occasions and fronting his own commentary series, “Fred Thompson Reports.”

Westwood One expects big things from the show. Westwood One EVP for Affiliate Sales Dennis Green said: “This will be the biggest talk radio launch since Bill O’Reilly.”

Another exec added: “Of all the radio talkers out there, how many can say they’ve debated in the Senate; campaigned for president of the United States; had a successful TV career on ‘Law & Order’ and shared the screen with Morgan Freeman, Bruce Willis, Robert De Niro and Sissy Spacek?”
