UK Streamed Station Ranked #1

London-based Virgin Radio’s Internet channel, www.virginradio.co.uk, ranked number one in Arbitron’s January measure of Internet listeners.
Virgin Radio, the first international Webcaster to join Arbitron’s “Infostream” service, recorded a monthly audience of 173,200 listeners in January, with a hot adult contemporary format.
The next most popular Webcaster was Christian Pirate Radio (www.mycpr.com), an Internet-only station, with 81,000,000 listeners. The Contemporary Christian formatted station is owned by Salem Communications.
And once again appearing in the top-three stations ranked by Arbitron’s monthly Infostream was www.KPIG.com, an album adult alternative formatted station, with 80,800 unique listeners. KPIG.com is broadcast from Monterey, Calif. by New Wave Broadcasting LP.
“The fact that Internet-only audiocaster, Christian Pirate Radio, is one of the top channels in the January Infostream ratings illustrates, once again, that consumers are listening to Webcast programming they can not find on traditional broadcast stations,” Joan Fitzgerald, director of marketing, Arbitron Internet Information services, said.
