The Voice of America (VOA) has launched “African Music Mix,” a daily program focusing on African music.
The show includes contents from the VOA archive of 12,000 African songs. The VOA English to Africa Service broadcasts on shortwave, medium wave, television, the Internet, 40 affiliates and VOA FM stations in Accra, Ghana, and Nairobi, Kenya.
According to the “African Music Mix” Web site, the channel carries music from across the continent ranging from n’dombolo (Congo) to benga (Kenya) and hip life (Ghana) to coupé-décalé (Côte d’Ivoire), as well as fuji (Nigeria), mbalax (Senegal/Gambia), raï (Algeria) and kwaito (South Africa). “And don’t forget African Hip Hop. We have it — and now, so do you — right here on ‘African Music Mix.'”
“African Music Mix” airs Monday–Sunday at 0000–0300 UTC/GMT and Monday–Friday at 1100–1400 UTC/GMT. It is also available on-demand via the VOA Web site.
