WFIT Goes IBOC With Harris Gear

WFIT Goes IBOC With Harris Gear

Non-commercial WFIT(FM), Melbourne, Fla. went HD Radio in late September. Harris believes the station, licensed to the Florida Institute of Technology, was the first such conversion in Brevard County, home of Harris’ corporate headquarters in Melbourne.
Several Harris executives were at the Sept. 20 launch ceremony, including company Chairman/President/CEO Howard Lance.
The jazz-formatted Class A WFIT has received FCC approval to multicast its digital signal but station executives have not yet decided on a format, Harris stated.
The digital gear installed included: a Harris Z-Series Z6HDC solid-state hybrid FM/IBOC transmitter, Harris DexStar FM IBOC exciter, and a Harris NeuStar HD-FM codec pre-conditioner.
