From the Radio World “Who’s Buying What” page: Baltimore Public Media’s 88.1 WYPR(FM) has announced a partnership with GeoBroadcast Solutions to deploy MaxxCasting technology across its Maryland network of stations.

WYPR is also simulcast on 88.1 WYPF(FM) in Frederick and 106.9 WYPO(FM) in Ocean City.
With support from the France-Merrick Foundation and other donors, WYPR invested in GBS’ technology. MaxxCasting uses low-power FM booster nodes to improve signal quality and reach.

The first phase of WYPR’s initiative was to apply the technology to the main transmitters of same-channel WYPR and WYPF to improve coverage across portions of the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., markets. In a GBS release, WYPR President and GM Craig Swagler said that he has been pleased with the improvements to coverage specifically in the Baltimore–Frederick I-70 corridor.
GBS’ Chief Technology Officer Paul Littleton is working with the station’s technical team, led by WYPR Chief Engineer Ray Hepner, to implement the project. WYPR said that it sought a hands-on approach to optimize MaxxCasting in its Maryland coverage area.
The next phase of the WYPR project will add new MaxxCasting nodes, through filing for boosters, to further expand its coverage. The system could portend future single-frequency booster additions, such as zone-targeted content, via GBS’ ZoneCasting, the company said.
