Washington-area news station WTOP and its WTOP.com website say it’s the first U.S. station to partner with the Waze Broadcast Program service to supplement their traffic reporting.
Waze is a crowd-sourcing app where a network of drivers posts traffic issues, and better routes, for other Waze users to see during their travels.
The partnership will allow the WTOP traffic department access to a special version of the Waze app to help reporters identify, capture and report the most newsworthy incidents in real-time. In exchange, WTOP will brand Waze user content when the information is incorporated into reports.
Jim Battagliese, director of WTOP Traffic Operations calls Waze “another tool in our arsenal to help Washington commuters, who have one of the worst commutes in the country.”
