Best of Show: AEQ Capitol IP Plus AoIP Console

The console offers expanded connectivity and flexibility

We are featuring the products that won the Radio World Best of Show Award at the 2025 IBC Show. Winners were chosen by a panel of engineers and RW editorial staff for their innovation, feature set, cost efficiency and performance in serving the industry.

At the IBC 2025, AEQ presented the Capitol IP Plus, an evolution of its range of digital broadcast consoles, specifically designed for on-air control.

According to AEQ, this console offers expanded connectivity, flexibility and a modern design with 10 faders. Capitol IP Plus comes with LCD color displays for each fader channel and a 7’ touch screen as the base of operation for its control section. “This provides an intuitive experience for the operator, also allowing precise control of all console functions with its touch’n turn encoder,” said the company. With 10 faders and 16- or 32- channel Dante/AES67 AoIP connectivity, the Capitol IP Plus has the ability to adapt to different workflows.

In addition, there is Bluetooth connectivity on the surface, three amplified headphone circuits, four AES/EBU digital inputs and outputs and up to 17 analogue inputs and 16 analogue outputs, including five microphones inputs — in a basic configuration, that can be expanded via Dante. Plus, it has a routing capacity of 96×96, thanks to the new, separate engine, M_CORE PLUS.

It is equipped with a fixed configuration of inputs and outputs suitable for a wide range of use scenarios.

Inputs: four mic/line inputs, 12 analog line inputs, four stereo digital AES/EBU inputs, two stereo digital USB inputs and 16 Dante/AES67 AoIP channels.

Outputs: eight analog line outputs, four stereo digital AES/EBU outputs, two stereo digital USB outputs, 16 Dante/AES67 AoIP channels, stereo control room and studio monitor outputs, primary and secondary studio headphone outputs and CUE headphone output.

The default configuration can be expanded with additional options such as 16 additional AoIP inputs and outputs, telephone hybrids and a redundant power supply.

AEQ says Capitol IP Plus also stands out for its customizable workflows and its programmable keys, which allow for hundreds of configurations through pagination, making it easy to adapt to any workflow. The Capitol IP Plus features a set of memory banks to store channel and signal settings, including the surface’ signal distribution, output bus routing, signal processing parameters and their activations.

This allows to create a “bespoke” console for different programs with diverse technical requirements, said AEQ. Also, the Virtual Capitol option enables remote control from a parallel control surface on a PC or tablet, with expanded simultaneous channel usage.
