Best of Show: BE AMX Compact AM Transmitter Platform

Silicon carbide MOSFETs deliver technical advantages, BE says

We are featuring the products that won the Radio World Best of Show Award at the 2026 NAB Show. Winners were chosen by a panel of engineers and RW editorial staff for their innovation, feature set, cost efficiency and performance in serving the industry. Information about how the program works can be found in a FAQ here.

Here’s an AM transmitter that you can ship via UPS or FedEx.

Broadcast Electronics describes the AMX as a next-generation platform based around high efficiency, scalability, simplified maintenance and significantly reduced footprint.

“Using simple building blocks, you can scale a transmitter up to 5 kW in a single 5 RU chassis for analog, HD Radio or DRM broadcasts.”

Silicon carbide MOSFETs like those in electric vehicles are used for the PDM modulator and RF amplifier. BE says it’s a first for AM transmitters, delivering increased voltage and current capability, reduced capacitance and increased robustness.

Features include redundant auto ranging power supplies for single- or three-phase power configurable at the transmitter. Modulation Dependent Carrier Level operation is supported for reduced energy consumption. Orban Inside is an available option.
