APT Brings Video to Oslo

A new direction for the codec maker, the module aims to serve broadcasters who want to combine video with audio and data payloads

APT, recently acquired by the Audemat Group, has developed a video encoder/decoder module for its WorldNet Oslo modular codec system.

The module uses Motion JPEG2000 compression for video transport. Eight channels of audio can be embedded into the video stream. A single card is used for both encoding and decoding (and audio transport). Video compression is scalable. The card is recognizable by Oslo’s control management software. The audio is encoded with APT’s Enhanced apt-X algorithm.

APT Video Products Product Manager Helmut Foerster said: “We have added the video functionality as a result of feedback from several high-profile broadcasters who, having deployed multiple WorldNet Oslos throughout their networks, could see the benefit to be had from combining video with their audio and data payload.”
