Gemini Adds Audio to Speaker

Onboard USB/SD card reader installed in powered speaker

DJ/live sound equipment specialist Gemini isn’t a main source of radio station equipment but occasionally Gemini will produce something that might be of interest to the radio market. The RS-415USB is such a product.

The RS-415USB is typical of the standard live sound/portable DJ/club-style plastic powered speaker design. But it adds a very interesting feature – USB drive and SD card reading ability. For a radio station that does remotes and events, such a feature adds the prospect of playing prerecorded material for breaks along with pre- and post-event music and programming, courtesy of cheap (and easily replaced) USB thumb drives and SD cards. A small LCD screen on the rear of the speaker allows for navigation.

The speaker section consists of a 15-inch woofer with a 1.75 titanium compression HF driver. A 245W amp drives the LF while a 55W amp pushes the tweeter. Gemini specs the unit at 40 Hz – 18 kHz. There are RCA and XLR inputs for additional sound sources, mics and mixers. Gain, bass and treble controls along with a master output control are included on the rear panel. There’s also a pole mount. Price: $349.
