From the Radio World “Who’s Buying What” page: The Voice of Viet Nam’s traffic radio, VOV Giao Thông, recently expanded its IP-based audio routing capabilities. This was the second phase of an upgrade using Lawo digital broadcast consoles and AoIP equipment.
VOV Giao Thông launched in 2009 in Hà Nội in the county’s north to provide traffic information and useful news for motorists. Since then, the channel has gone on the air in Hồ Chí Minh City and the Mekong Delta region in south, as well as in Đà Nẵng and the coastal region.
Working with EMICO, which provides technical services to the VOV across the county, and Singapore-based Broadcast Communications International, the broadcaster installed three Lawo diamond consoles, three crystal consoles, and two pairs of Power Core routing devices. Previously, VOV had installed two Lawo ruby and two crystal consoles. The equipment went into VOV facilities in Hà Nội and a new studio facility in Đà Nẵng.
“The expansion of Voice of Viet Nam’s broadcast infrastructure marks an important step in our ongoing efforts to modernize and streamline our operations,” stated a VOV spokesperson.
At the center of the system is a Ravenna AoIP network that works through the Lawo Power Core routers to ensure VOV has flexible I/O options and high capacity for routing audio signals between studios. A redundant system was specified to ensure VOV can continue broadcasting without interruption even in the event of a hardware failure.
BCI managed the majority of the configuration of the system, but Lawo provided additional support to configure the Ravenna network and the redundant Power Core setup to meet VOV’s plans for future growth.
