A behind-the-scenes manufacturing note: SKB Corp., a manufacturer of plastic road cases for all sorts of industries including broadcast, recently took delivery on a hydraulic toggle injection molding system.
The system for SKB’s factory in Orange, Calif., is faster, quieter, more efficient, more flexible and more cost-effective than the earlier system at molding plastic case shell components.
Weighing in at 225,000 pounds, the “device” is capable of 2.25 million pounds of clamping pressure (ouch!). The mold for the first case run will weigh 27,000 pounds.
