QFX R-9 Radios Headed to Puerto Rico

The battery-operated radios can receive AM, FM, MW and SW1-7 signals

For those who are curious, NAB has shared the model of the radios that will be headed to Puerto Rico shortly: QFX’s model R-9.

The R-9 is capable of receiving AM, FM, MW and SW1-7 signals. The unit comes in black and is described as “high-sensitivity” and “low-noise”. It features a telescopic antenna, LED power indicator and a 3.5 mm earphone jack. It weighs less than half a pound and has a small footprint (5.2×3.15×1).

QFX lists its MSRP as $9.99 online.

NAB Executive Vice President of Communications Dennis Wharton explained that battery-operated radios were chosen because they were more quickly accessible in mass quantities.

“We don’t want to have to wait weeks or months to get these in the hands of Puerto Ricans,” he said.

But Wharton said each radio handed out will come with two sets of batteries; the radios require DC 3V or 2 AA batteries.
