‘Pulse 87’ Uses PPM Data to Pitch Itself

N.Y. radio station on Channel 6 audio channel uses a custom report from Arbitron to help attract N.Y. ad dollars

How many people listen to that station that serves New York from just off the lower end of the FM band?

Arbitron released station-specific custom PPM estimates for WNYZ(LP), “Pulse 87,” which as RW has reported in the past is owned by Mega Media Group and airs audio on a TV Channel 6 slice of the spectrum at 87.7 MHz.

The company says the station has more than half a million listeners, 540,700 cume persons age 6 and older in the during the September survey period of Aug. 21–Sept. 17 for Monday-Sunday 6 a.m.-midnight daypart. Persons 18–49 account for 64 percent of the audience.

Arbitron quoted Mega Media Group CEO Alex Shvarts saying the Portable People Meter is vital to its business.

“Only AM and FM radio stations are currently eligible to be reported in Arbitron syndicated services. With PPM, we can create custom reports detailing the Pulse 87 FM audience.”
