Affordable Hi-Fi Boomsets for Broadcasting

Sennheiser has released its HMD 280 and HMD 281 boomsets. Both units feature a lightweight, ergonomically designed 102 dB SPL headphone monitoring system that attenuates ambient noise by 32 dB through a closed-back, circumaural design. A super-cardioid microphone is mounted on a flexible, acoustically isolated boom.
The boomsets provide reliable communications, even in noisy production environments, due to considerable earpiece attenuation low structure-borne noise and high microphone directivity.
The HMD 280 has two earpieces and the HMD 281 has one earpiece. The stereo HMD 280 is suited for ENG, live presenters, reporters and intercom operators, as well as the rental market. A single cable carries monitoring and talkback signals for tangle-free use. The microphone boom can be mounted from either earpiece.
The single-earpiece HMD 281 is good for talkback applications with TV and film camera operators. The earpiece may be worn on either side.
The units are constructed of easily replaceable components. An 8 Hz to 25 kHz earpiece frequency response ensures critical monitoring and the noise-compensating microphone delivers 50 Hz to 13 kHz response. Price: HMD 280: $249.95; HMD 282: $219.95.
