Alaska Translators Go Dark

Peninsula Communications owner David Becker shut down 7 translators after a protracted battle with the FCC, so says Alaska newspaper the Kenai Peninsula Clarion. Last year, the commission levied a fine of $140,000 and told him to shut down the translators. He claimed Alaska translators are exempt from rules that ban using translators to extend a station’s coverage beyond its licensed contours.
