American Tower continues its expansion in Latin America.
The company, which owns and develops broadcast and wireless communications sites, recently announced that its Colombian subsidiary, ATC Sitios de Colombia S.A.S., had launched, with an agreement to purchase exclusive use rights for up to 458 wireless communication tower sites from telecom company Coltel.
It closed on use rights for 225 sites, where Coltel is anchor tenant, and expects the rest this year. The two organizations also are talking about rights for up to an additional 514 wireless communication tower sites by the end of 2011.
American tower announced deals for Chile in July and Peru in August.
Top exec Jim Taiclet stated, “Our platform for growth in Latin America is strong, with now five served markets where wireless carriers are focused on investing to deploy additional spectrum and launch new data services.”
American Tower has about 33,000 sites; its markets include the United States, Brazil, India and Mexico.
